My inspiration...

When Kumu taught us Lili'u E, our first hula noho (seated hula),

I fell in love,

not with Kumu, that happened long before.

I fell in love with hula noho;

the grounded feeling of being close to the earth,

the subtle yet powerful connection when we move together,

 the beauty that comes from movement accompanied only by our voices.

So, this hula began my deep desire to know all I could about Lili'uokalani,

and that began my need to honor her,

and then,

to honor the history of Hawai'i.
